This curriculum reflects the teamwork of many individuals who share a commitment to children, families, and lifelong learning. This version of the Child Welfare Training Institute’s preservice training for prospective foster and adoptive parents is based on the insights and supportive contributions of many people.

We are grateful for information, feedback, and guidance from Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Bureau of Child and Family Services staff, and especially Bureau Director, Karen Westburg for her ongoing support of the Child Welfare Training Institute.

Appreciation is also extended to the CWTI Adoptive and Foster Family Educators who commit themselves to the teaching and training of prospective foster and adoptive parents throughout the state of Maine. We are indebted to them for their ongoing expertise in delivering this valuable information year after year. Their sharing of life experiences as foster and adoptive parents helped to shape the curriculum.

We want to thank the CWTI intern and staff who assisted with editing, formatting, research and writing. Your time and commitment to this process was invaluable.

Appreciation must be expressed to all the foster and adoptive parents who have opened their hearts and lives to the children and birth families.
