Manual Overview

It is designed so that at the end of each session there are at home assignments and materials relevant to the following session. At the beginning of every session, there will be a brief review of any questions or concerns from the previous session and an overview of the current session. You may want to take a moment and look at the Guiding Principles, Themes, and Competency Model in the manual or in the Intro part of the menu at left. You will also see that there are links to the Competency Guide, Glossary, and Resource Guide.

Training Overview
This 24-hour training is a beginning to your learning experience as foster/adoptive parents. The emphasis will be on the role of the foster/adoptive parent as a member of a professional team working in partnership with DHHS and service providers. A large amount of time will also be spent on parenting skills and the special needs of children in care. The experience, knowledge, and skills participants bring to this class are used as a basis for building strengths to meet the new challenges and opportunities of foster/adoptive parenting.

Absences
If a participant is absent from the session, he or she must complete a makeup assignment. If a person has more than two absences, s/he will not get any credit for the course. Note: This means one Saturday if attending a Saturday series.
