Major Federal Legislation

By 1965, each state had child abuse reporting laws; but beginning in the 1970s, the United States Congress became aware (along with the rest of the nation) that the child welfare system was not adequately protecting children and their families.

Each state has enacted specific legislation to meet the Federal requirements of the laws we just reviewed. These laws affect your role
as foster parents.
